About the Event

ARRIVAL TIME & MEETING PLACE

Our tour of the Old Capitol begins at 11:00 am. Arrive at 10:30 am (no later than 10:40!) and meet on the Old Capitol steps for a photo opportunity before we enter. Find our Ambassador, Lauren, who will be wearing a gray FLHSA t-shirt, to check in.  Check in by 10:40. Late arrivals are not guaranteed entrance, so please arrive on time. Make sure you check in with Lauren and enter with our group.

Be sure to click on READ MORE> at the end of this paragraph to view all the details of this field trip. More information may be added closer to the field trip date. Please check this page again closer to the event date, in case of new information.

INTRODUCTION TO THE CAPITOL

Please begin by visiting this page. You may also browse the entire website. There, you will learn about the building, where to park, local meal options, what to bring, and what to wear. All attendees on the Old Capitol tour are expected to review the material on the page prior to arrival, as we must adhere to these procedures throughout the day's activities.  There are also videos and activities that you may wish to save for before/after the experience, to supplement the learning (these are optional, and not required to attend).

PROPER BEHAVIOR

This is a historically significant location, and because of its legislative uses, PROPER BEHAVIOR is required, as defined on the Capitol website. Please review this paragraph, taken from their website:

"The Historic Capitol can be quite busy, especially during the legislative session and around elections. We often have more than one group as well as many individual drop-in visitors. Your cooperation in maintaining a quiet atmosphere for other visitors is appreciated. Please have at least one adult per ten students, and typical "library manners" apply. Food and drinks are not permitted in the Museum. Water fountains are available next to the restrooms. Special access is available from the northwest entrance on the courtyard side and with elevators to each floor."

Please dress as you would to enter a building of this importance. Parents should remain with their children. Please keep voices to indoor volume. No food or drink is allowed!

Thank you for respectfully representing Florida home educators and the Florida Homeschool Association.
